The Bellows Mansion takes its name from its most famous room: a vast, subterranean forge with a bronze bellows the size of a grand piano. The story goes that the estate was built by a self-taught ironmaster who struck it rich on a river and quietly retired upstate. No living relative has ever claimed it.
The mansion was never wired for ordinary radiators or fireplaces. Instead, hot air was pumped through clay ducts laid beneath the floor.
